I have a 2.0D XF with 11k miles and no adblue warnings yet. i would expect adblue consumption to (very roughly) correlated with fuel consumption as it is a contributor to the SCR system which
AdBlue is a brand name for a liquid mixture of deionised water and carbamide, AKA urea, which is basically the main component of urine. Hence the idea that AdBlue is pig wee. Thankfully, AdBlue isn’t made by collecting pig or indeed human waste donations. It’s entirely man-made… man-made in the sense that it’s created in a lab, not man
Love my 2010TDI but Adblue system has given second thoughts on several occasions. I always use VW Adblue and still have had the pump module fail twice. Just went and checked the 2.5 gallon jug of this stuff I bought recently and noticed that it does not have an expiration date just a warning to store below 30C and above freezing.

AdBlue is urea, which is like urine. Therefore, I can piss in my tank. Right? Probably not. AdBlue is 32.5% urea and 67.5% water, where the stuff that you wee out is (depending on your diet) 91-96% water and around 2% urea (plus heaps of other stuff). So, AdBlue isn’t just fancy piss – despite your most romantic notions.
As with fuel, several factors affect AdBlue consumption, including vehicle type, engine power, weather conditions and driving style. Also of note, the size of the AdBlue tank varies according to model. When does the AdBlue tank need to be filled up? The tank is filled by your dealer when servicing your car.
Consumption is based on driving style and car model. Diesel drivers can check AdBlue consumption based on the make model and year of car manufacturers or vehicle handbook. Does my car need AdBlue? If you need to top up, some filling stations sell although it tends to be expensive compared to: GSF Car Parts; Euro Car Parts; Amazon
The amount of Adblue you need to use will depend on the type of car you have: Mid class diesel will need 1litre for 1000km. SUV/MPV class diesel will need 1.5litre for 1000km. We sell Adblue in sizes ranging from 4ltr to 20ltr, however you can get an Adblue top-up of 10ltr for just £17.50. If it’s your first time using Adblue, we recommend
